I went to my grade school and high school alma mater last Friday (Aug. 26) to talk about being a working student in Korea. Most commonly, in the Philippines, when you say working student people think of someone who has not much choice but to work in a fast food restaurant while studying primarily because of financial reasons. In Korea though, most university students actually work while studying. I guess the pay is more reasonable there that you don’t have to in real need of the money to be a working student. A Korean friend also told me that you can work for an entire summer in Korea and earn enough money for a plane ticket somewhere. Koreans love travelling so that could be one of the reasons why working while studying is more common there.
